2013 MoCo Epic

The 2013 MoCo Epic (unless I'm a complete doofus I think it stands for Montgomery County) is a 66 mile single-track ride through the 11 parks in Maryland.  The ride starts at the Germantown Soccerplex and follows a giant loop connecting the 11 parks.  Maryland certainly has a lot of single-track to ride.  There were really long rolling descents with not that much climbing.  Not sure how that works given I started and ended at the same place.

The weather was beautiful and in the lower 60's.  There was some mud but not too bad.  Nothing real technical, you just had to stay on the skinny track and make sure you didn't fall on the down side.  I'm very pleased I escaped without any falls and didn't drop any blood.

Aid stations were really good.  There was one that the State Farm guys were serving tomato sandwiches.  White bread, mayo, tomato and some sea salt.  After 60 miles of riding these really appealed to me.  I honestly think I ate 10.  One dude told me I should save some for the other riders.  The following aid station was serving hot dogs wrapped in canadian bacon and pineapple ... yummy.

A special shout-out to my faithful sponsor A-1 Heating and Air Conditioning.  For a job well done, call A-1!  So if anyone is cold this winter, call Danny Clarke for some warmth.

Total riding time was 7 hours and 47 minutes for 68 miles. Why 68 you say?  Because the trail wasn't overly well marked at one point.
